Needle Felting - It's fun, it's easy! So, so much easier than I thought. Basically you take a piece of wool roving, stick it with a special needle a whole bunch and mold it into the shape you want while you're sticking it with the needle. The wool felts and you end up with a little sculpture. I like how sturdy these little things end up, they'd make great toys for kids. I love all the different colors that you can get the wool roving in and I even dyed some myself with kool-aid! No pictures yet of the dying process, soon though! Needle felting is one of my new little addictions. One of many craft related addictions.
This little gnome is in my Etsy shop
Cupcakes! I had 5 in my Etsy shop but sold them along with an order from the same person for 5 more. I have some more coming to my shop soon in case you want some too (wink wink). The strawberry is the first thing I felted. I think everyone who has wanted to try this should, I put it off for a while thinking it would be a lot harder. Watch the needle though, that thing is dang sharp!! Ask me how I know that. ;)
Believe me… I know all about how sharp that needle is! I've stabbed myself good a few times! But you're right. Needle felting is lots of fun!

Oh , I love it. I remeber you talking about how you wanted to try this when we hung out last time, so I am so happy that you started it up!

I would love to try needle felting. It is on my to do list. How did you learn? Did you use a book?

I actually didn't use a book. There's a really great yarn/spinning store in Sisters, OR and the lady that works there showed me how. It's kind of like working with clay, if you were shaping the clay with a needle instead of your fingers. The little notches on the needle catch the wool fibers and push them down into whatever you're felting, then those fibers lock with other fibers. It is really easy though. All I got to start out was a special foam mat made for needle felting, a set of different sized felting needles and some wool roving. Then I just played around with everything.
