The temperature here has been dipping pretty low at night, and has already frozen my poor basil plants and my tomatoes. I know those are temperature sensitive, but I was sad to see them go! Still hanging on are my thyme and rosemary plants. I planted lots of herbs, veggies and flowers in containers this year, they cheer me up to come home to since they're right by the front door. But they're dwindling! So Lucy and I made a trip to pick up a new fall planter and some ornamental cabbages to brighten our doorstep.
I love the colors of the ornamental cabbages, they're so vibrant! About the only things you can have outside here this time of year are cabbages and kale, pansies and mums. Plus the plants/flowers that hang on in whatever micro climate you live in. I miss the Portland area for that reason (among others), everything turns brown here in the winter!
I love pansies. You see them a lot but I can't resist their little faces! I'll take whatever flowers I can get to grow when it's freezing here, anyway. Wish my new little guys gentle nights so they can hang on as long as possible! :)
Nice post Amanda, I think I have thrown in the towel as far as growing anymore flowers. I could plant some bulbs, how about you are you going to plant any?

I reread my post and I could see how you would think that, but you are right only for the season. I will be by this weekend and look at the deer-resistant bulb pack it sounds interesting and I think it would be fun to see if it works.
