I do love to sew by hand. Sewing by machine is okay. It's necessary, and I'm good at it. But I really enjoy hand sewing. I like the meditative quality of it and the tiny details, and there's something about making perfect little stitches that's really satisfying and enjoyable.
There's even something relaxing about the little diagrams. Matter of fact, straight forward, simple. Why can't all things have steps in sets of 3?
I gave little soon-to-be matryoshka dolls little red hearts throughout the evening. A worthwhile project, I think!
Blanket stitch, satin stitch and french knots have to be my favorites to sew. Although little whip stitches are pretty satisfying too. Luckily there's lots of sewing in my future! Christmas is coming...I need to get my shop ready!
I love making French Knots too. Wonder why that is?

That book in particular is called Softies, by Therese Laskey.

Sublime Stitching has lots of good diagrams, too.
