This morning while I drank some coffee, I watched Lucy color for about half an hour. I'm not sure if I'd ever really just sat down and watched her for that long before. It was pretty inspiring! Small children don't self critique or feel self conscious, they just color. If something she was trying to draw with her crayons wasn't working out for her, she just changed it into something else as she went along. She drew mommy, daddy, babies, Grandma, houses, fish, and my favorite - yucky spiders.
I am in love with Lucy's yucky spiders. She's been drawing them for a couple of weeks now, although it sort of makes me worry if she had a traumatic spider experience that I don't know about.
She is absolutely proud as can be when she finishes a picture and shows it to everyone.
I think everyone could take lessons from a 2 year old sometimes. Imagine what we would be capable of if we had never gained that inside critic that tells us what we make is no good.
Indeed!
Reminds me of a Picasso quote: "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."

Lucy was telling me about the "yucky spiders" also as she was drawing on that draw board thing she has here. Impressive it is.
